LONDON (Talha Ahad): Ex-MP of Bahraini Parliament,Mr.Jawad Farooz, has demanded the immediate release of award-winning photojournalist Ahmad Al Fardan, who has been held without charge in Bahrain since December 26,2013.
Talking to Awaaz,He said, Ahmad Al Fardan , a highly respected journalist who has been arrested and detained under false and illegal pretenses and has done nothing to warrant such an action by the authorities in Bahrain ” said ex-MP.
“His detention is a restriction of the freedom of journalism and media in Bahrain and undermines the provisions of the rights of journalists law, which provides a safe environment for press and media work in the country.”
“I am deeply concerned and share the worries of his family that the conditions of Ahmad Al Fardan imprisonment might further damage his failing health,” he said further.
The photojournalist, who works for the Nurphoto, Demotex and Sipa photo agencies, was reportedly beaten when arrested at his home in the early hours.
He has been denied visits by his lawyer and family, but he has twice been allowed to phone them.
Mr Jawad Farooz is member of the Al Wefaq political party, the main opposition party in the Bahraini Parliament. He resigned from his office as members of Parliament in February 2011 in protest of the government crackdown on protestors, which has led to a number of deaths and other human rights violations.
